Portuguese Lesson - "Caralho"
What “CARALHO” means.
The Portuguese Academy of Leters says that, "CARALHO" is the name of the small basket in the top of the masts of the “caravelas” (ancient boats) and from where the guards looked the horizon in search of land signals.
The CARALHO, given its situation in an area of much instability (in the high one of the mast) was where the rolling or lateral motion of a boat was revealed with bigger intensity.
Also, he was considered a place of "punishment" for those sailors who committed some infraction on board.
The punished one was sent to fulfill hours and even entire days in the CARALHO and when he went down he was so nauseated that would remain calm for a good pair of days. From there the expression appeared:
“GO PRO CARALHO"
CARALHO is the word that all defines the gamma of human feelings and all the spirit states. How many times, when appreciating if a thing are good or it pleases you, don't say:
“THIS IS GOOD LIKE CARALHO “
If an foreigner speaks with us and we don't understand what he says, we ask:
“What CARALHO he said?"
If we are annoy with somebody, we send him to CARALHO. If something does not interest us:
“I don’t care a CARALHO”
But, if it interests us very much, then:
“I care for CARALHO”
Also, this expressions are common:
This girl is nice like CARALHO...
This guy is ugly like CARALHO
This women leaves far like CARALHO...
And there is nothing that we can define, explain or emphasize without joining one CARALHO!
“CARALHO”
If the form to proceed from a person cause us admiration we say:
“That guy is from the CARALHO
If a trader feels depressed by the situation of his business, he says:
“We are going to the CARALHO".
When we meet with a friend we don't see for a long time, we greet him like this:
where CARALHO have you been?
It is therefore why I am posting here this fulfillment of the CARALHO, and wait that the content pleases you like the CARALHO.
And I desire that your goals and objectives will be fulfill, and that your life, now and always, is good like the CARALHO.
